The four elements are one of my favorite ways to sort the twelve zodiac signs, like sorting seeds into four little piles. They're names for themes in Western astrology, not a claim that a person is made of fire or water.
Three signs belong to each group
Fire includes Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. Earth includes Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. Air includes Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius. Water includes Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. Three to a pile, nice and tidy.
The names point to broad themes
Astrologers often connect fire with starting and acting, earth with practical steadiness, air with ideas and exchange, and water with feelings and reflection. These are symbols used to read signs. They aren't scientific measurements of personality.
Use the labels lightly
If an element catches your eye, turn it into a question: What would help me act, plan, talk, or pause today? Your answer can change from day to day. One element can't sum up a whole person.
A few common questions
Does my Sun sign give me only one element?
Your Sun sign belongs to one element in this system. A full chart contains other placements too, so that one label isn't a complete description of you.
